GERMINATING

Identity | Balance | Connection

The Compañeras Program of El Centro AMISTAD will present the Summit digitally for the second time, incorporating, as in previous years, themes of leadership and awareness of social justice, health, equity and access, and the development of new skills, including traditional, ancestral, and holistic practices to strengthen resilience in our community. Our mission is also to improve learning opportunities and access to healthcare for our Spanish-speaking women and, consequently, improve family and community well-being.

The Summit is called GERMINATING, and we are seeking workshops that, in addition to addressing the aforementioned issues, are aligned with the current realities of living through and resiliently surviving a pandemic. In this context, we are metaphorically using the image of a germinating seed, and the summit's themes will inspire us to walk together in germination.

This year, the summit is dressed up with the participation of the writer and screenwriter Laura Esquivel (author of “Like Water for Chocolate”).

During Summit week, many of our Speakers/Presenters who have shared their talents at past Summits will celebrate this 15th anniversary with us.

During this Summit week, we focused on issues of physical and emotional health and overall well-being of women, highlighting our identities and resilience to continue being part of this movement for a just, equitable, and accessible society.

The Summit is a space intentionally created for Spanish-speaking women, where we share, reconnect, nurture our lives, and celebrate our ability, wisdom, and achievements.

The Summit is an event where an atmosphere of camaraderie and sisterhood is created, in which we all contribute the seeds of our own experience and from which we always emerge strengthened, renewed and eager to return the following year.

The 15th Summit represents years of continuous growth; living this experience has given us spaces for reflection, capacity for action, and a desire to promote this women's movement at international and intergenerational levels.

The seed planted in fertile soil germinates, sprouts, grows, and transforms into the plant that will later bear fruit. For this to happen, the most important thing is that the plant is in the best environment, with fertile soil, just the right amount of water, air, and sun. But even in adverse circumstances, the plant can thrive. Nature is resilient, and humanity is part of that natural cycle of resilience. For this reason, we have progressed, overcoming time and again the difficulties that have come our way.
