Boulder, CO - El Centro AMISTAD will hold their 18th Annual Compañeras Women’s Summit and Annual Cumbre Juvenil Youth Conference from September 6 - 7th.

This year’s Youth theme is Liberación Colectiva: Ourstory in Movement.

This year's adult theme is Cumbre Compañeras - Sanación Colectiva: Renacer, Explorar, Vivir.

The Cumbre is an intergenerational dual conference for Spanish-speaking women and youth. This year we will be hosting both of our conferences at the Boulder Jewish Community Center (JCC).

“The Compañeras Cumbre de Mujeres is an annual event to celebrate women and youth.” said Elena Aranda, AMISTAD Co-Director and founder of the Compañeras program and conference. “It is an event for and by Spanish-speaking women. Every year the conference celebrates a special theme where women have the opportunity to learn and share inspiring ideas to live a healthy, just, and thriving life.”

The day before the adult conference, the Annual Cumbre Juvenil (ACJ) youth conference will take place offering culturally relevant leadership workshops for Latinx* middle school and high school youth ages 11-17 in an age-appropriate setting. The ACJ is inclusive to youth of all gender identities and expressions. The ACJ conference is centered for Indigenous youth and terminology for identity is for youth to explore for their own identity formation. This includes the spectrum of identities such as Latinx, Chicanx, etc. Adult workshops grounded in solidarity with youth will be available for educators of middle school and high school youth, space is limited.

“To grow up in the Boulder community as a Latinx/Chicanx/Indigenous youth can be a struggle but it is also a great strength. Being bicultural/bilingual in Boulder can be challenging for many reasons and we want to hold a space for our youth to explore this in community. The youth conference creates a brave space to identify, express, and plan community action. “We aim to support our youth in their power to become leaders who are proud of their roots, while manifesting their own cultural autonomy”, said Maya Sol Dansie, founder of the Annual Cumbre Juvenil and founder of Mayamotion Healing.

The adult conference models empowerment and leadership and was founded by Elena Aranda and a team of women. Elena’s daughter, Maya Sol, joined the movement by founding the Annual Cumbre Juvenil. A mother of a youth participant stated: “The Cumbre is the only conference where my daughter and I can both participate. It is so gratifying to see my daughter share with others who all speak the same language, our language. It is a conference designed for the two of us!”.

The price for all events and the conference is:

In person/U.S.: $50 per adult / $25 Youth*

*Scholarships are available, and no one will be turned away for financial reasons.
