Companion: We invite you to participate in this circle by bringing a candle, a glass of water, your favorite fruit, a small pot with soil, and a seed.

  • 5:30-7:00 PM Ancestral Healing Practices

Ancestral Healing Practices Through Dance. Presented by: Carmen Reina Nelson and Michelle Gallardo Alzamora, “Ancestral Healing Dances of the African Diaspora.” Throughout the centuries, the indigenous cultures of the Americas have used dance as a form of healing. Dance is used in both collective and individual ceremonies. In this workshop, we will use dance movements based on two spiritual beliefs. Carmen Reina Nelson will share movements based on the African diaspora. Michelle Gallardo Alzamora will share movements based on dances from the Mayan culture. Using storytelling, the workshop will provide a brief historical overview of each culture. We will then use dance movements so that workshop participants can join us in creating rituals that honor nature, seeking to cultivate in our bodies a feeling of gratitude, relaxation, and harmony—the foundations of healing.
